Top Of The Hill

Well, my daddy told me about his great granddad Joe
Who erected a stone where they buried his bones
Well, he took me to the top of the hill
So I could see what was really real
All of those old tombstones in the ground
All of them spirits sitting around
Some of those stones, they’re from the seventeen hundreds
How many Indians needed to go?

So old Joe could get to the top of the hill?

I don’t need no stone
Oh let the wind be my home
Just keep on singing my song
That’s how my spirit lives on
And when the singings all done
And you hear the last chord strum
 Just hum with the wind
Because I’m gone baby I’m gone
 Gone baby I’m gone

Well my mama told me about the man from Galilee
He came in peace, still they nailed him to a tree
Well the devil took him to the top of the hill Tried to sell him what he said was real
All of those humans scattered around
All of the suffering going down
Some of those folks, thought they were king
Until they realized that they’d shed the blood

Of the one, who would get them to the top of the hill

I don’t need no stone
Oh let the wind be my home
Just keep on singing my song
That’s how my spirit lives on
And when the singings all done
And you hear the last chord strum
 Just hum with the wind
Because I’m gone baby I’m gone
 Gone baby I’m gone

Old Crow River It started down by Old Crow River
On a dark but moonlit night lies the heart of a giver
He took her up a hill to a farm house on the right
Her brothers came and got her and stayed up with her that night He didn’t see it coming it hit him right between the eyes
Every sad story just a lining in the sack of lies
They tried to stop it long ago like a vampire with a stake
Bloodshot eyes that never sleep like a fire they stay awake

Three different brothers from one same mother
They took it all so differently never could see the other
They took it across the country across the ocean to another land
Face to face with the enemy they reached out a brothers hand

(
It ended down by Old Crow River
On an old dirt road under a moon tip sliver
Over a singing bridge the stars mourn the water
She came back down the hill looking for her lover

The Wood And The Spark

In the quiet of the night
I sit and wonder what is right
 All that I can do
Is take the path and follow you
Who’ve gone before me Lit the path to set us free

Who’s the hero on your street?
 The discoverer of your dreams?
 The inspiration on your sleeve?
Or is there no one else it seems?
You’ve got to find the wood
 And spark the fire too

Alone the feeling is so sad
Together we make it not so bad
What else can we do but love?
All good things come from above
Fall down on me
I’m blind, I cannot see, I want to see (c)2010, Jerry Oliver, ASCAP

The Journey 04:03
The Journey I took a trip down by horseback To a place called sentimental valley Full of rocky roads and sneak attacks Like being caught alone at night in a dark ally So I tried to climb up by myself That mountain called Black as the Night Hard and cold and merciless, I need some help I'm not quite ready to give up the fight So I went back across this wide expanse Had to take a wagon train and the family too Over the Rockies across the Mississippi we took a chance There comes a time, a place and a thing you've got to do When the time comes take me to the Great Lake Let me fly one more time, over the magic water One more star filled night I'd like to take Yeah, take me to the land of my father (c)2011, Jerry Oliver, ASCAP

Out On The Edge Of Darkness

Out on the edge of darkness holding to the rim of light
Just hoping all the ones you love
are going to turn out alright

‘cause when you’re standing on shaky ground
when you thought it would all be ok
You start to see the fragile nature and the razor of another day

Out on the edge of darkness
holding to the rim of light
It might be shining out from your eyes
or your smile that lights up the night

‘cause when you’re standing on shaky ground
when you thought it would all be ok
You start to see the fragile nature
and the razor of another day

Out on the edge of darkness
something always pulls me in
Out on the edge of darkness
where redemption mingles with sin Out on the edge of darkness holding to the rim of light
Just hoping all the ones you love
are going to turn out alright

They’re dying in the streets
of my mind that is reeling
 The walls are collapsing
in my heart that is beating
Through the photos of the ghosts
that are taped to my ceiling

And I won’t be forgetting

 all the crazy mad feelings
 The spinning and the whirling
 the living and the breathing

Won’t bring you back No it won’t bring you back

Like the time that is fleeting
and the stories that are ending
 Once your gone, your gone
 there ain’t no coming back
Like the ripples on the water
 and the clouds passing by

Complex as the spectrum
of the sun up in the sky
 We dance around fires
 and cry out our eyes

And it won’t bring you back No it won’t bring you back

Maybe one day I’ll discover the things I’ve been told
That you surround us and will always be there
But today I just feel cold
Your presence, the memories, the strength, the bond

All I know is today....you’re gone, you’re gone
 and you’re not coming back
Will you ever come back?

Unpredictable Moments Life is filled with unpredictable moments Life is filled with unpredictable moments You don't know what you're gonna get when you walk through your door Are all your friends gonna jump out and say "let's party!" or will you drop dead on your own floor? because life is filled with unpredictable moments life is filled with unpredictable moments Now I don't mean to put a damper on things I don't mean to be a bummer I'm just saying what I know to be true You need to think about where you want to get caught with your pants down because life is filled with unpredictable moments yeah life is filled with unpredictable moments Life is filled with unpredictable moments Life is filled with unpredictable moments Just when you think it's all nice and comfortable You got to pack it all up and move across the country Pack it up in a portable, say goodbye to your honey Driving down the highway you start to wonder why? What's it all about? and where are you going anyway? when life is so... Life is so unpredictable I said life is so unpredictable Life is so unpredictable Now I'm not saying you can't find love No I'm not saying you can't find love I'm just saying... one day it fits tight like a glove the next day it could be flying free like a dove because life is so unpredictable I said life is so unpredictable I said life is.... about

This is the second in a two album collection of original songs recorded in three sessions in 2014 and 2015.
These performances were recorded totally solo in one take. Jerry O just the way you get him live. No overdubs, doubled vocals or editing tricks. Just a good room, nice mics and a talented engineer to capture Jerry, his guitar and a few pedals while he paints these stories of heritage, loss, inspiration and the big question of existence.
