One winter night in 2012 after listening to the news on CNN and feeling a little agitated I threw a scarf around my neck, put a hat on my head and took a nice brisk walk and came back with this little tune. After a couple years of road testing it at solo shows I'm convinced it's here to stay and we decided to put it on this album.
lyrics
Looking For The War
In the middle of the night
I felt the pull,
In my hat and my scarf
I walked out my door,
With my head and heart
and my breath beneath the moon,
I went looking for the war
I went looking for the war
On the evening news
and in the air,
The papers, coffee shop talk
and more,
No matter what they say
it seems to be over there,
So I went looking for the war
I went looking for the war
I feel distant rumblings in my bones,
Can’t see it anywhere...
but you know evil glows in the night somewhere
It’s silent on my street
and everyone you meet
greets you with a smile
War... It seems to only exist in little boxes for awhile,
But I know it can show up at the door,
Why does it come?
Why does it go?
I went out looking for the war
I went out looking for the war
The night air smells so fresh and clean,
the skyline is serene
In a bunker underground
men of power pace the floor
I can’t see them, I don’t know them
I just read the magazines
I’m out looking for the war
I’m out looking for the war
Veteran selling papers on the street,
hookers sell their soul
Casualties lie, I pass them by
a scene I’ve seen before
I can’t hear them, I can’t help them
just want to let them know
I’ve been looking for the war
I’ve been looking for the war
Explosions flash on the horizon,
You can hear it in the wind
and you know it’s ripping up your world I
t’s loud out in the square
and everyone is there
yelling out the score
War...
It seems to live so close to home,
I find it everywhere I roam
Why does it come?
Why does it go?
I went out looking for the war
I went out looking for the war
I see it everywhere I go
It starts with greed and ends in need
I feel it in my dark heart
and I don’t want it anymore
You don’t have to look very far
when you’re looking for the war
Looking for the war
Looking for the war
Looking for the war
